Dayven, Charlie and Nate loaded up their toys and headed out for a 5-day boys' camping excursion in Idaho. Dayven's boss, Matt, owns land there, where he eventually plans to build a log cabin for retirement. For now, it's just a barn with the basic amenities, a 5th wheel camper and sprawling green as far as the eye can see. The area is really beautiful with rolling hills, a river and lush woods, the perfect spot for a little outdoor bonding - drinking beer, riding quads and dirt bikes and telling fish stories around the campfire. Matt and his wife, Susan, were there too, along with their son Jake, and daughter Kali, who had just finished her freshman year of college and is home for the summer.
The truck was loaded to the gills as they headed on the 11 hour drive. Once they crossed the border into Idaho, they stopped at the local dealership to pick up Dayven's new dirt bike, then headed on to Cabela's to pick up some more outdoor gear. They made a stop overnight to rest and headed out bright and early, eager to set up camp. They spent their time riding their toys around the trails, hiking and exploring the land and Nate even tried his hand at fishing in the river. Charlie is quite the camper and has all the tools to recreate the comforts of home. They had some deluxe meals cooked on the campfire, including steaks one night and bacon, eggs and hashbrowns for breakfast. No beans and weenies for this crew!

On one of their hikes, they discovered an old abandoned underground gold mine. Being a mining engineer, Dayven couldn't resist going inside to check it out. Braver than I would have been!
With all their new purchases, the truck was even more packed on the way home. Luckily one of the quads they took down was Matt's and they left it there or else they never would have gotten it all home. Charlie had to fit his quad along with all his new camping gear into the back of his truck to get back to Fort Mac. It was so full he couldn't even close the tailgate. Dayven was so excited to show me his new toy, but I'm not sure I showed the appropriate level of enthusiasm. Wyatt on the other hand was thrilled. He yelled "WOW! Coooool!" when he saw it and wanted to hop right on. At least one of us appreciated it!
A sincere thanks to Matt and Susan for letting them squat on their land. They had a fantastic time, as the pictures show, but I think they were glad to be home and take hot showers and relax in a soft, cozy bed.
Here's a slideshow of their trip...
