Happy Halloween!

Halloween was the holiday that wouldn't end around here. We had 5 straight days of rain with the hurricane on the east coast and Hadley's school had a water leak problem and cancelled school last week and postponed their Halloween party/costume parade until Monday. My mom and I went to watch the costume parade, which was really cute. Each class took turns parading around the big room in their costumes while the parents and grandparents oooed and ahhhed and snapped pictures. It was really cute. Hadley loved it and was waving and saying "Happy Halloween!" the whole way. Wyatt's class still had their party on Halloween and he wore his Mario costume to school. They had a party in their classroom with treats and activities and Wyatt's teacher told me he was so happy. He kept telling her all morning how excited it was!

Since it was pouring rain, all the townships in Pittsburgh postponed the trick or treat festivities until Saturday night after Halloween. It was a little anti-climatic to be celebrating Halloween in November but we went with it. When it came time to suit up after dinner, we realized Hadley was sound asleep. She was slumped over like a rag doll as we dressed her and Dayven carried her for the first couple of houses until she woke up. We knew she would be devastated to miss it. The kids had fun and weren't scared at all. We only made it around our street and the next one day. It was a lot of walking and the kids were getting cold so they headed back. There were a lot of kids out in the neighborhood and it was a nice chance to meet some of the new neighbors. Everyone seems really friendly.

My parents stayed behind with Tate and answered the door for trick or treaters. We had only a small amount of candy since we thought we'd be going on Halloween night in the summer house (where it's all retired people). We were not prepared for the rash of kids that came and really had to ration off the candy. At one point, we actually ran out of candy and had to do the mad scramble to the pantry to dig for suitable items. We found a few but those quickly ran out too and we were getting dangerously close to handing out cans of stewed tomatoes. We tried to turn off the lights and blow out the jack-o-lanterns but they were relentless. Plus it's hard to hide when the kids were both at the door peering out the windows screaming "LOOK! Spiderman! Wow, a princess!" Finally we had to resort to digging in the kids' pumpkins for cast offs to re-give. It was quite stressful. I will definitely plan better next year.
Our little robot didn't make it trick or treating this year!

such a cute picture of Hadley waving to you standing by the little lady bug!! Tate was cute in his outfit too. I liked the on/off on his back!We have no children on our street any more so we just shut off the front porch lite and hide out in the family room!!
