The weather outside is frightful

...or at least by Pittsburgh standards. We've had some of the coldest temperatures on record for the last 10 years. While I was busy complaining about how Pittsburghers are wimps and it's not even really that cold, the drain in our second HVAC unit froze so the heat upstairs went out. I woke at 5am, thinking someone had left a window open. Since the second unit is in our unheated attic, it's pretty cold and the water from the compressor froze so it shut off. We've been pouring hot water down the drain to keep it from freezing. Then the water line to the toilet in the master bath froze so we had no toilet. It's since thawed, after getting a ceramic heater at the advice of the plumber. Let's hope he was right about those expansion pipes have some leeway in them. Apparently Pittsburgh houses are wimps too.

It wouldn't be cold enough for even indoor recess if we were in Canada, but here is means school delays and cancellations. Monday we had a two hour delay, which means Hadley's preschool has a 1 hour delay. It's a logistical mess and means a lot of running around for me. Tuesday school was cancelled altogether.  We had a nice playdate with the neighbors, which broke up the day a bit. Wednesday it was cancelled due to a water main break, which was related to the weather. We are just ready to get back into the groove. We've been home too much, stared at too many electronics screens, watched too much TV.  The temperature is warming up tomorrow so our cold weather problems should be over. It's time to get this crew back to school!
We found "Iceburgh", the stuffed penguin hidden at Trader Joe's. We look for him every time we're there.

This guy can't get enough of trains.

Modern playdate - both on their screens.
So much fun!
Glow sticks in the tub...

Thanks to Hadley, Tate is obsessed with Snuggies too.
Two snuggies are better than one!

The original Snuggie...

Tate found Iceburgh on another trip, right at eye level in the bread bin. He's easy to find when a little kid hides him.

Hadley and I had a "Special Girls' Day. Wyatt was at school and we dropped Tate at Mother's Day Out and headed to the mall. We had a sweet treat at Starbucks, then headed to Build-a-Bear to spend a gift card Hadley had gotten from Santa. She picked out a stuffie "Princess Hello Kitty", got her filled and picked a Cinderella dress for her. We milled around the toy store a bit before heading back to get Tate for lunch. It's nice to spend time together with just us girls and I'm going to try to schedule something for us to do together once a month.

The Broncos had an exciting win over the weekend. We had some friends over to watch the game and Dayven smoked a pork shoulder. Everyone ended up bringing some form of shrimp dish so Wyatt was in heaven with a big shrimp buffet. We were all decked in orange, cheering on our team. Even me, who really knows nothing about football. I just wear the shirt and make the food.

It is going to be a very sad day when Hadley's hat wears out! She looks so cute in it. Love all those Bronco shirts for everyone. I've been wearing my 3 Bronco shirts for ever it seems.
