The Greenbriar Classic

Getting ready to tee off...
Dayven with Rory Sabbatini

Dayven had another trip to the states this week. He flew into Pittsburgh and took a quick peek at our house (they're starting framework on the first floor!) then headed to West Virginia for the Greenbriar Classic Pro Golf Tour. He was hosting a couple of his customers with his new job and they had the chance to golf in the Greenbriar AM tournament. It's the practice round for the PGA Tour that follows the next day and all the big dogs play in it... Tiger Woods, Phil Mickleson and a bunch of other guys I've never heard of, but you golfers know what I'm talking about.

Will anyone ever get his name right??
He was so excited to be able to golf in this prestigious event at the Greenbriar Resort. The golfers received a bunch of fun goodies in their bags. Of course Dayven's name was misspelled but they're sending him a new one with the correct spelling. Each foursome had a professional golfer as part of their group. The pros were picked at random from a drawing and Dayven's foursome got Rory Sabbatini. He's got a reputation for being quite a hothead and has been in trouble in the past for heated profanity-laced arguments on the course and throwing clubs. They call him the "villian of golf" so Dayven was a little nervous but he turned out to be ok. Each golfer had their own professional caddy which was a pretty cool experience. On the second hole, he hit it very close to the pin on the first shot. The crowd was cheering and the pressure was on. He went to put for birdie and missed the short put. He was embarrassed and said the crowd laughed. He's normally a pretty good golfer, but it was really intimidating with so many people watching him play.  There were ropes around the green with people lined up and down either side watching, and following them to each hole. The pressure got to him and he didn't play his best game ever. Five times someone asked him for his autograph, assuming he was someone famous. He thought this was pretty funny considering he wasn't doing that well. Rory was heckling him a bit, telling him not to quit his day job. All in all they had a great time. He said it was a beautiful course and an awesome experience.

That night he went to a concert to see Toby Keith and Lionel Ritchie. Since it was the 4th of July they had a fireworks show as well. It was the first time he's celebrated the 4th in the states since we moved to Canada. The next day was the pro tour with pro golfers only and he had a spectator pass so he got to go inside the ropes and watch the golfers up close. Again people thought he was a pro and asked for his autograph and inquired as to how he was playing that day. He was quick to point out he's just a fan of the sport. He enjoyed taking in the sights and being at such a gorgeous resort. He got a little preview of the heat and humidity that's in store for us. We're going to melt! He's back now and we're going into crunch time this week. Just a little over a week and the truck arrives...
