The Canadians celebrate their indepedence on July 1, much in the same way we do - fireworks, BBQs and parties with family and friends. The fireworks don't start until dark, which is almost midnight, so there's no way the kids could make it and good luck finding a sitter on Canada Day. We heard the rumble and boom as they started up, and caught a tiny glimpse out our bedroom window, just over the trees. We had a very low key 4th of July, just spending the day at home together. The 4th of July really feels like any other day up here since all the festivities happened three days prior.
We did have a fun weekend with our friends, Charlie and Marta and their kids, who made the trek down to spend the holiday with us. We grilled out, played outside and had a cookout with neighbor friends one night. I celebrated the holiday vicariously through all my American friends by looking at their pictures on Facebook and their blogs. Happy Independence Day!

First the ribs boil in beer over the grill, then they're transferred to the rack and basted in sweet, smoky BBQ sauce. Finger lickin' good!
The kids burned off their extra energy on their bikes, while I relaxed and enjoyed my Mojito...
