He made it! Dayven ran the second leg of the marathon relay this morning. He's officially a "Runner of Steel". He left the house at 4am to catch the train. Not fun, but he wanted to beat the crowds and get to his relay spot in time. I was kind of regretting not running when I started seeing the updates online and thinking about all that adrenaline and excitement that happens on race day. It was really crowded downtown and they had live music along the way, including mariachi bands and people with maracas for Cinco de Mayo. He started up near the Mexican War Streets, ran down across the river and finished up along Mount Washington, where he tagged off to our friend Courtney.
He finished his 3.65 leg in 26 minutes, which is great, but of course he is a competitive go-getter and felt he could have run it faster if he wasn't wasting valuable time dodging people who were running the full marathon at a slower pace. Plus there were hills. A lot of them. Still a great time and he had fun. When he was done he hopped the train back home.
His super supportive family was off at Krispy Kreme getting donuts when he called for a ride from the train station. When he couldn't reach us he decided to start walking. He stopped along the way to go to the bathroom and then ran the rest of the way home, an additional 2.8 miles added to his earlier leg. Needless to say, he earned a relaxing afternoon watching sports and a Cinco de Mayo beer tonight too!

How is it possible that he can run that fast a pace! All the training in the world would never get me to that pace. That is awesome...congrats Dayven!
