Happy Easter / Nana and Poppy's Visit

We had a great visit over the past ten days with Nana and Poppy. They took a chance on our "spring" weather and came to see us. We'd been having beautiful weather the week before but true to form, the cold blew in just in time for their arrival. We didn't let it stop our fun. We enjoyed just spending time together and the kids loved all the extra attention. Hadley entertained us with nightly talent shows and silly antics. Since my parents had just been here when Tate was born, the kids really remembered them and warmed up instantly. Wyatt requested that Nana read his bedtime stories on the first night. That's a huge honor since he usually always likes me to read them. My mom is so good with them, playing all afternoon - tea parties, sleepover, dress up, bouncy house and puzzles. I must admit I only play briefly here and there in between getting things done around the house and I think they really loved all this undivided attention, especially Hadley.

One day we all headed out to go bowling. We thought it would be fun to try with the kids since they're never been. They have five pin bumper bowling here which is perfect for little ones. The bowling balls only weigh 5 pounds - perfect for small hands! They had fun but quickly realized it was much easier with the ramp. Hadley loved it. Wyatt would bowl a couple of frames and then wander off to the arcade. We practically had to drag him out of there when it was over!

Dayven, Tate and I took a little side trip (more on that later) and Nana and Poppy enjoyed some quality time with the big kids. They had a few outings to the library, the mall and of course, McDonald's. We got another dump of snow one day so they hunkered down and colored Easter eggs.

Dayven surprised me and arranged for our sitter to come so we could enjoy a nice dinner out. We made a reservation at a local Italian restaurant we like, only to find they were closed for Easter weekend when we arrived. I was disappointed but we had a nice dinner at our back up restaurant instead.
Hadley's first pedicure - a little messy but it's hard when your subject is wiggly so much!
We celebrated my actual birthday with the kids on Easter Sunday. The kids helped Nana bake a carrot cake for me. My parents had taken the kids to the store to pick out a couple of things for me. Of course, Hadley had to come home and tell me instantly "Mommy, we got you new polish and magazines, your FAVORITE!" in her animated little voice. That kid can't keep a secret to save her life. We started the morning with an indoor Easter egg hunt due to the crazy blizzard we'd had two days prior. The kids still had fun and all the eggs were found and emptied of their contents within 30 minutes. They had a sugar rush before 9am, but that's always how holidays are, right? We had prime rib and potatoes for dinner with a nice bottle of wine, finished off with the carrot cake. It was a great birthday and so nice to have my parents here with us. They're back home now and we miss them already. The kids got up and asked about them on the morning they left. Hadley said she was sad they left and Wyatt called me "Nana" accidentally a couple of times that day. We can't wait to see them again soon!
