When I asked Dayven what he wanted to do for Father's Day, his answer was simple. "Go golfing". I'm pretty sure this doesn't involve me or the kids, but at least he was honest. He didn't end up playing golf on Father's Day, but he did play in a golf outing for work on Thursday down in British Columbia. Every year it pours down rain at the outing and this year was no different. They just donned their rain gear and kept on playing.
Friday was the Father's Day picnic at Wyatt's school. It started in the afternoon and Dayven had a six hour drive from B.C., but he told me he would leave as early as he had to in order to make it there. What a dad! There was a tiny break in the rain so the kids and their dads were able to play outside for a bit, then back inside for pizza and root beer. Then the kids all presented their dads with a special present they had made, a jar of snacks with a special photo magnet on top.

Saturday we went to check out the World of Science Museum in Edmonton. They have a Sesame Street exhibit touring right now and Hadley was in heaven. It was a great exhibit with a lot of hands on things for the little ones, teaching them all about their bodies and how things work. The attention to detail was great and it all looked like it was straight out of the show. Hadley even got to meet Elmo! She was so excited, you'd think we were seeing Elvis. I was so proud of how patiently she waited in line. She kept saying "How 'bout my turn, mommy?", but I told her we had to wait and she did. She kept petting him and trying to hold his hand. She couldn't even take her eyes off him long enough to pose for the photo. The worker practically had to peel her off him when her turn was over. Wyatt said he thought Elmo looked scary and wanted nothing to do with him. We checked out a few more exhibits and then Wyatt decided he wanted to say hi to him. We waited in line again (this time it was much shorter) and when we were fourth from the front, one of the workers announced that Elmo was hot and needed to take a break and could we please come back in an hour. Seriously? Translation: Elmo is union and he's not making enough for this gig. Time for a smoke break. You can imagine there were a few unhappy campers in line when they heard this. Wyatt didn't seem to mind much but Hadley was disappointed she wouldn't get to see him again.

The rain never did let up and by the afternoon, we decided we needed to get out again. We went to an early dinner with some friends at the very kid friendly restaurant at our gym and blew off a little steam at the indoor playground. One of the Cat wives plays on a roller derby team and they were playing that night at the arena so we decided to go see her game and show some support. I have never watched Woman's roller derby, or any roller derby for that matter and we were all surprised at how exciting it was to watch. The "Jammers", as they're called, were jockeying for position and trying to get an extra lap while the other players tried to box them out. Girls were hip checking each other and bumping each other off course. The outfits were hilarious too with crazy names on their jerseys, wild hair-dos and make-up, ripped shirts and fishnet tights.
As much as we love Daddy's Sunday pancakes, we decided to give him a break and go out to breakfast. We were running out of ideas to get us out of the house and breakfast turned out to be the perfect way to break up the morning. We spent the afternoon watching movies and playing indoors, together as a family.
We love you, Daddy! We're so lucky to have such a wonderful father and husband in our lives.
Happy Father's Day!

Those pics of the museum reminded me so much of our Children's museum when I used to take the grand kids, now 25-27-29 yrs. old. Our son it taking us out to eat later on todat at TXroadhouse. Both of their favorite place to eat. I'm sure there will be a BIG line. We visited Barbara and Jimmy yesterday for a couple hours. Had a good visit.
I am so jealous! I want to go to the Sesame exhibit, Please tell me they had Grover ... and you even got to hang at Mr. Hooper's store. Too cool.
No, they didn't have Grover, at least not "live", only cutouts. The whole thing was pretty cool. I was almost more impressed than the kids. Sadly, I had to go to Hooper's Store and shop my myself. :( I don't think the kids appreciated that part as much. They were obsessed with the Count's pipe organ. Everytime you pushed a key, it belted out in this crazy tune "BLAAAAADER!"......."BOWELLLLLLS!" and sang about that organ. It was pretty funny. I swear someone designed that exhibit with the parents in mind.
