We left on a jet plane, we just took a slight detour from our original plans. Karen has viral pneumonia so rather than risk exposing Wyatt, she asked that we postpone our trip to Denver a bit until she is feeling better. We figured it is better to go when she is feeling up to having company and can enjoy our visit. We were already packed and ready to hit the road and I couldn't bare the thought of unpacking my suitcase. We switched our ticket at the last minute and flew to Peoria to visit family and friends.
It was a whirlwind trip. We spent 10 fun-filled, action-packed days frolicking with cousins. Every night was like a big slumber party at my cousin's house. With 4 adults, 3 kids and 2 dogs, there was never a dull (or quiet) moment. Wyatt had a ball with his big cousins, and there was nonstop giggling and antics. The dogs quickly realized who is most likely to drop crumbs and followed Wyatt around like the Pied Piper.
We went swimming, grilled out, caught up with friends, played Mexican Train and just enjoyed spending time together. We even had a rendezvous with Charlie, Marta and Aniela, who were in town visiting their families. Dayven left mid way through the trip to head to the Ozarks for a golf outing, but Wyatt and I were in no rush to get back so we stuck around a bit longer. We hired a sitter one night and attended a party my friend Ning threw to celebrate the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics. The sitter was so good, we hired her for the next day as well so my cousins and I could enjoy some shopping in peace. We headed over to Marta's parent's house and her mom introduced us to her pickle soup (it sounds strange, but it's surprisingly delish), which we washed down with a Polish beer.
We had to hit all of our favorite Peoria restaurants. Sadly, Aggatucci's was closed for vacation, but we smuggled some Avanti's bread home with us in our suitcase (you Peorians know what I'm talking about). We had a ball, laughed a lot and as always, I was very sad to be heading home. We can't wait to see everyone again!
