A family update

A week and a half ago, we received news that Dayven's mom, Karen, was diagnosed with breast cancer. Karen lost her mother at an early age to breast cancer and her sister battled it as well. Dayven also lost his dad when he was 17 to cancer, so his family knows firsthand how devastating this disease can be.

Dayven, Wyatt and I have spent the past 10 days in Denver with Karen, enjoying our time together. We feel so fortunate to have this time with Karen. She is at home and resting comfortably. We have to head back to Canada for a bit, but we plan to fly back and forth and spend as much time together as we can. We are very blessed to have a wonderful support network and Karen has people who will be staying with her and checking in on her. This will allow us to go home and repack and take care of a few things and know that she is in great hands.

Karen has truly dedicated her life to serving others and has so many people who love and care about her. The number of people offering their support is a true testament to the friendships she has built over the years. Dayven's family has been incredible - bringing groceries, meals, offers to babysit. Old family friends have been calling, sending flowers and stopping by to visit. She has a wonderful group of girlfriends that have been together since college. Their friendship that has survived 40 years - through boyfriends, marriages, kids, divorces, deaths, all the ups and downs that life throws at us. They have an incredible bond of friendship, love and loyalty. They've been keeping her company - visiting, telling stories, laughing and keeping her spirits up.

It's always hard to digest news like this, but life is full of unknowns and tomorrow is never really promised for any of us. No one can say for sure what's ahead. Karen has an incredibly strong faith in God and she continues to remain very positive - knowing that everything always works out exactly as it should.

Thanks to all of you who have been by our sides (or even just with us in thought). We can't tell you how much we appreciate your prayers, support and well wishes. We feel so blessed to have such wonderful friends and family. Please continue to keep Karen in your prayers.

I have known Karen since she was in high school. She's like a daughter to me and Her mother was my very best friend. Every evening we play scrabble on our computers. She loves to come over and her and Billy have a glass of wine while she and I play Upwords.

Damnit! Ughhhh!!!!

Sorry to hear your news.

Thank God for direct Edmonton/Denver flights at relatively reasonable rates and within the same time zone!

Speaking from experience, Denver has some great doctors.
